Curatorial note:

‘Huaro’ in Quechua means union, but it is also the name given to the suspension bridges built in pre-Columbian times. The Marañón river separates two mismatched realities: on the one hand, the integrity of the Awajún community and, on the other, the aversion of a part of society constantly monitoring them. Wiesse introduces us to the multiple layers of Peruvian society—structural racism, the criminalization of the Indigenous resistance by the government—while addressing mental health and education as a social process.
