The FICDH is a cultural initiative that aims to showcase the power of film in raising awareness and fostering commitment to the defense and advocacy of human rights. Founded by the Instituto Multimedia de Derechos Humanos (IMD), the festival serves as a platform for highlighting recent socially engaged audiovisual productions that promote inclusion, equality, multiculturalism and respect for diversity.
The program—selected from an international call that received over 1000 submissions—includes over 50 short, medium-length, and feature fiction, documentary, and experimental films from 37 countries. The films are organized into thematic sections such as Native Peoples, Childhood and Youth, Migrants, Gender Views, Panorama, and Health. The program also features focused windows to Palestine and Trans Identities, along with a curated screening of Latin American Animated Shorts and a window to the Climate Crisis Film Festival, organized in partnership with the British Council. Notably, 50% of the program consists of films directed by women, asserting the Festival’s commitment to gender equality and diversity in film.
As in previous editions, the Festival includes special activities. As part of a collaboration with the Spanish Embassy and the Centro Cultural de España en Buenos Aires (CCEBA-AECID), Spanish activist Lucía Hellín Nistal will be in attendance, and Italian filmmaker Claudia Brignone will also be present thanks to the support of the Instituto Italiano de Cultura.
For its 21st edition, the International Human Rights Film Festival directs attention to material and symbolic borders that affect us as humanity, beyond geographical boundaries. The FICDH extends an invitation to consider borders not only as territories where inequalities are heightened, but also as spaces for dialogue and collective transformation where film can open pathways to other possible futures, promote reflection, evoke empathy, build bridges, and inspire social change.
The FICDH presents three Official Competitions: the International Feature Films Official Competition, the International Short and Medium-Length Films Official Competition, and the Latin-American Documentary Films Official Competition. Additionally, It will award a film with the RAFMA (Argentine Network of Festivals and Audiovisual Exhibitions) “Edgardo ‘Pipo’ Bechara el Khoury” Prize, and present an Audience Choice mention. The screenings will be followed by exchanges with directors and subject-matter experts , encouraging discussions and collective reflection. The full schedule of screening and special activities will be announced soon via the Festival’s social media channels (@festivalficdh on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Tiktok) and on the website: www.ficdh.imd.org.ar
