Synopsis:

Based on a musical narrative and the use of diverse archival footage, the film proposes a restless journey through relationships built by the ownership of land and people. A popular symphony of violence, resistance, strength and affection. In addition to music and archival footage, the film is built upon the narration of excerpts that comment on domestic life during colonial times, as well as the presence of contemporary characters.

Curatorial note:

With remarkable insight, Ana Rieper captures part of the colonial, racist and patriarchal legacy that runs through Brazil’s history in 76 minutes. While one might focus on a single issue—to explore specific systems of oppression and build a film around the idea that less is more— Ana instead embraces the full complexity of Brazilian society in a documentary that is dynamic and intense in multiple ways. In this case, more is more—and it is most welcome. Mariano Pozzi
