Synopsis:

Nothing Gentle in the Shadows addresses the stigma surrounding sexual violence against men, exploring how their masculinity is often questioned by society and authorities. The documentary features three male survivors from diverse backgrounds, sharing their traumatic experiences. It highlights that sexual violence can affect anyone, regardless of race, gender, or age. Through personal stories and symbolic imagery, the film offers a deep, empathetic look into the survivors’ lives and struggles.

The difficulty and challenge of reliving past traumas are navigated with efficiency and deep respect in this audiovisual piece, in which the heartbreaking testimonies are brought out by beautiful, contemplative images, generating a precise as well as powerful counterpoint. Mariano Pozzi
