Synopsis:

In the summer of 1982 the Israeli army invaded Beirut. During this time, it raided the Palestinian Research Center and looted its entire archive. The archive contained historical documents of Palestine, including a collection of still and moving images. Taking this as a premise, A Fidai Film explores the visual memory of this looting and appropriates images now in the hands of Israeli archives.

Curatorial note:

Aljafari has become a beacon of contemporary Palestinian cinema and has made the archaeological exploration of the Palestinian archive appropriated by Israel throughout history a central part of his creative work. This film, through a powerful gesture of reappropriating what was taken, and a poetic act of reimagining the recovery of an occupied territory, seeks to reconstruct the visual memory of a country through imagination and cinematic intervention. A Fidai Film is a manifesto, an embrace of the memory of a people in resistance, and above all, proof that cinema remains a powerful weapon for liberation. Mario Manríquez
