Synopsis:

With the help of archival footage, I wish to delve into the experience my father, Guillermo Torres, went through as a political prisoner following the Chilean military coup. By going back and forth between the past and the present and his testimony, I can feel how hard it is to face that painful past. In trying to fill in the gaps in the official stories and rewatching clips from my childhood, memorie emerge, urging me to investigate my own story.

Curatorial note:

Torres contra el olvido is an autobiographical piece, an epistolary dialogue, a journey into the shadows of Chilean history, a meeting between a daughter and her father, a heap of sorrow and hope—shaped by the consequences of a criminal dictatorship, a forced exile, and an impending revolt. Through diverse personal logs, the memory of a fractured country in cyclical tension emerges. Mario Manríquez
