To get a SIM card in insurgency-hit southern Pattani, in Thailand’s Deep South, you have to have your face scanned as mandated by law. Because of this, thousands of Malay Muslims are forgoing mobile communications and becoming biosecurity rebels against the state as they form a community forcibly disconnected from modern communication.
